“guards the graveyard of the atlantic”
The nation's tallest lighthouse was moved to a different location to preserve it.
Go early to avoid the crowds and long waits to walk up the stairs of the light house. Water drinks are the only drinks allowed in the light house. They have a nice gift shop a short walk from the light house but no drinks for sale, not even bottled water.
The picture needs up dating.. that's one of the other lighthouses on the Outer Banks..The Cape Hatteras light house is spiral painted.
Very picturesque lighthouse, especially when the sun was setting. Admission to go up was $6 but we arrived too late to take advantage of that. Easy enough to stop at on your way up or down the outer banks.
Um... That photo is the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
Amazing and well taken care of historic beacon for all to enjoy
Went in off season so you couldn't go to the top. But was able to look around the site. (Looks like they don't do the tours until April. )
Must see if you come this way.
Want your exercise for the day? Climb the 257 steps to the top of the world’s tallest brick lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Go early if you want to avoid the crowds (especially in summer). You can only bring water into the lighthouse (and it's recommended if you get easily parched). There's a good gift shop, but they don't sell water. So be prepared if it's a hot day.
Very cool and informative! Wonderful view from the top, although a lot of steps!
Had a great time climbing this lighthouse! Great view from the top! Definitely worth the time!
