“1 of the largest water powered grist mills still in existence”
Historic Clifton Mill is one of the largest water powered grist mills still in existence. The first mill at this site was built in 1802 by Owen Davis, a Revolutionary War soldier and frontiersman miller. The mill was built in this location to take advantage of the natural power of the concentrated water funneled into the gorge. Owen Davis and his son-in-law, General Benjamin Whiteman also built a saw mill and a distillery. Soon a village known as Davis Mills sprang up around the mills. The Little Miami River powered five other mills that were built within a mile of Clifton Mill; a woolen mill, saw mill, paper mill, barrel mill and another grist mill. Clifton Mill is the only one still standing.
Great restaurant to stop for breakfast. Come around Christmas to see the entire place lit up with over a million Christmas lights.
Also, set aside a few extra minutes to explore the little village of Clifton - some great photo ops here!
Absolutely adorable restaurant with beautiful views of the glacier gorge below! The largest pancakes you’ve ever seen (seriously!!) and in more varieties than you’d ever expect! The gift shop will leave you lingering longer than you thought you would, and once you’re finally done, a nice long stroll around their trails and beautiful grounds will help you burn it all off. Take it from a local, this place is worth the drive! Just call ahead to verify hours, as sometimes they vary from what is posted.
Nice restaurant to dine with the family. They serve breakfast and lunch all day. The prices were fair. The food was great! I ordered for an apple cinnamon pancakes and they were great. Really delicious. My family got burger, salad, chicken fingers, and homemade chips. The salad's dressing is also homemade. The service is good and the what I really love about this place is the view. While on the restaurant we got to see the beautiful view of the waterfalls. There's also a gift shop that sells candies, souvenirs, and toys.
Beautiful place to eat. Food was good and reasonably priced. The view made it 5 stars.
This was a fun, quaint little restaurant. We went for their dinner service and had a table by the window. We enjoyed watching the stream as we ate. We both left with doggie bags. When traveling away from home, we like to look for places unique and local. This was one of those places and I will recommend it to family.
Food was good. I got the apple cinnamon pancakes which can literally feed 4 people easily. Service could have been much better. Our waitress treated us like she didn't have any time for us...and our party was simply 2 people. If you don't mind Christmas lights everywhere (think National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation), you will find the mill area to be very beautiful. We found all the lights and wires to be a distraction to the natural beauty. Probably looks much better at night with the lights on.
