“Historic Louisiana Plantation near New Orleans”
Located between Baton Rouge, LA and New Orleans, LA, Houmas House Plantation allows visitors to experience the life of a wealthy Sugar Baron in the 1800's. The mansion is restored to its glory days of the 1880's and tells the stories of the romance, sugar cane business, and wealth of all the families who have lived there. The gardens are rare and extensive and are easily the most exquisite in all of Plantation Country. Two restaurants have captured attention of food critics nationwide and been voted some of the top places to dine in the country. In 2010, Theknot.com voted Houmas House Plantation a top wedding venu in the New Orleans area. At Houmas House, all your fantasies of the antebellum will come true.
Such a cool place to stop! I would definitely recommend the tour of the mansion. Skip the breakfast at the carriage though, it was way over priced and not that great. The walk up to the mansion was super cool on its own too.
Because of our travel schedule we chose to eat lunch here and skip a formal tour. The staff allowed us to enter the grounds to eat lunch without buying a tour ticket; we had to walk around the main house to reach the restaurant and simply returned to the office by another route, giving ourselves all of the sightseeing that we had time for. It was beautiful! Their gardens are the prettiest that we encountered along River Road (out of 6 properties).
