“There's always room for Jell-o!”
Housed inside a large stone building, Le Roy, NY proudly presents its very own creation: Jell-O. Le Roy is the birthplace of Jell-O, and felt that this revolutionary solid/liquid should be properly honored with its own museum. The Jell-O Gallery has a large new exhibit that reflects Bill Cosby's influence over thirty years. Also, listen to entertainers Kate Smith, Jack Benny, Lucile Ball as they promoted the Jell-O product over the radio air waves. See television personalities Andy Griffith and Gomer Pyle along with Bill Cosby as they pitch your favorite dessert, Jell-O. Historic LeRoy and the Jell-O Museum/Gallery are located in western New York, 30 minutes southwest of Rochester and 60 minutes east of Buffalo/Niagara Falls. LeRoy is 3 miles south of the New York State Thruway exit 47, on Rt 19. Turn left at the first light in town on to Rt 5. Drive down the LeRoy Main Street, cross the Oatka Creek bridge. We are located on the left in the next block across from the School (just behind Historic LeRoy House).
This was a total small-town kitsch museum. For $4.50 you can tour the basement "transportation museum" then tour the upstairs Jell-O museum. Ruth, the tour guide, is both adorable and funny and you can tell she truly enjoys what she does. It wasn't a mind-blowing or particularly educational stop, but it was fun and quick!
We stopped at the Smokin' Eagle BBQ and Brew that was right down the road for lunch while we were in town and it was delicious food, lots of it, for a great price.
Cute small town museum. Worth a stop in. The curators are very passionate about the museum. Kids can do a quiz and get a free box of jello. Nice people!
Such a cute museum! It was pretty easy to find, but parking is around the back - which may be confusing for some. The museum houses old advertisements, a statue used in one of the past Olympics, and of course, Jell-O moulds! The entire museum is small and takes about an hour if you read all the information. We didn't leave without a trip to the shop - and made sure we bought a few boxes of Jell-O and a cool copper lobster Jell-O mould as well as some recipes. It's definitely worth a visit!
This was an adorable little home town museum. The lady who worked there was a wealth of information and you could tell she loved her job. It was a perfect 30 minute stop to stretch our legs and get to say we saw the Jell-o Museum
So awesome! Lots of cool little Jell-o gifts in the gift shop. Ruth is adorable and will take a photo with you!
What a fun little place! Great value and what can I say but adorable. I highly recommend checking it out!
As of the 20th it was still closed.
The Jell-O museum was absolutely worth the stop in. The whole museum can be done in about an hour (including the transportation museum downstairs). It's a lot of really cool information and the people who work there are really nice and very knowledgable.
A surprisingly interesting museum. I learned a lot about Jell-o! The staff was really nice and the museum is well laid out. The transportation museum was also worth a visit. I thoroughly enjoyed the hour I spent there.
We really enjoyed this off-beat attraction! Neat to see how recipes, etc have changed over time. Loved the different marketing strategies as well....
