Follow the history of photography with a guided tour, from the Daguerreotype c. 1839 (the first commercially viable photographic image produced onto a silver coated copper plate) to present day digital photography. We have over 100,000 negatives and prints in our archives. We can make reproductions for you in sizes from 8x10 to mural for your home or office.
Just found this and I'm so excited!!
This is my favorite accidental find in Pittsburgh. Drove by it on the way to the aviary, and had to stop. You have to ring the doorbell and wait a while for the owner (or curator? not sure what his title is) to come downstairs to get you. But man - if you're interested in vintage photography, it is THE PLACE to go. Every type of old photo print you can imagine (albumen, daguerrotype, magic lantern slides, you name it) and any type of film camera you can imagine. All in this little upstairs museum. So great.
This amazing little museum is quite a gem! We made it for the last day of an Abraham Lincoln exhibit, and it was truly incredible. They had HUNDREDS of original images of Lincoln, and our tour guide Bruce knew everything about everyone of them.
The upstairs is a beautiful collection of historic images and cameras. I’m a professional photographer and I still learned so much. Definitely carve out a few hours to stop by and be impressed. Cannot recommend enough!
